Farmers’ Protest : Eschew One Meal on Kisan Diwas, Pay Homage to Charan Singh

 

 

New Delhi : Protesting farmer unions urged people to skip one meal in support of their stir against the Centre’s three new farm bills today on ‘Kisan Diwas’, the birth anniversary of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. The protesting farmer unions have today taken this decision in the wake of the government’s offer for fresh talks to resolve the deadlock over the Centre’s contentious farm laws.

A great number of farmers visited ‘Kisan Ghat’ here this morning to pay tribute to Chaudhary Charan Singh, who was known for his farmer-friendly policies.To mark Kisan Diwas, protesting farmers at Ghazipur border held a ‘havan’.

Farmer leader Kulwant Singh Sandhu said that 32 farmer unions from Punjab had held a meeting on Tuesday and discussed the next course of action.The farmer leaders will also observe “Shaheedi diwas” from December 23-26. Traffic remained disrupted in bordering areas of the national capital due to the stir.
